Don’t blink. Don’t leave the room to aid to business with the television running. Hit the end button. This is advice for those odd with the station of John le Carré’s TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, Glance. There is a heck of a lot going on here, a basketful of characters and three major subplots introduced in the first two episodes of this six-episode mini-series.

TINKER, TAILOR is a sinuous memoir of a mole in high places in the British Secret Service, also known as the Circus to insiders. Called out of retirement, a rather premature retirement, we learn, George Smiley (Alec Guinness) is called on to disclose the British official selling secrets to the Soviet enemies.

In the enchanting 2002 30-minute interview on disk one writer le Carré tells us that after the initially reluctant Guinness signed on everyone wanted to work on the project, and this mini-series is studded with large actors. Fortunately so, too, because this movie takes site around restaurant tables and in dingy `safe’ houses more often than in involving, exotic locales. This one belongs to actors who can train in tight close-ups distinguished more so than to special effects wizards who can blow things up prettily.

At the center of it is Guinness, who, in my thought, is simply colorful. In the interview le Carré mentions that Guinness was always shaving lines off the script, reducing his role, so to direct. Wasn’t kindly at memorizing lines. There’s more to it than that, though. Guinness arrive is minimalist to practical non-existence. I probably won’t be able to enlighten it, but somehow Guinness makes itsy-bitsy to no impression. There aren’t the stream of dramatic utterances, or even the minute bits of business (fumbling with a tie, for instance) that most actors seem to esteem. Usually, the only time we peep a accurate reaction is when a character has his assist to Smiley/Guinness and mentions Smiley’s wife Ann. Then the reaction, dinky enough, in context is remarkable because it manages to wreck through the carefully crafted screen. Guinness realizes Smiley as a search for, a man who’s genius is to get no impression, to cast no shadows and leave no clues. In lesser hands, which is comely great anyone else you could mention, this near would be unutterably bland, but Guinness’s blandness is at times almost radiant. The highest recommendation for this one.

The opening shot sets the tone of the entire six hours. We scrutinize a dingy meeting room in an faded London office building. The radiators are indiscretely visible, the paint is peeling off the walls, the lone cabinet looks creaky. Through the windows we spy it’s a wintry grey day. A man sits at the table smoking a cigarette; he is soon joined by a second who sits diagonally opposite him. A third man arrives with a tea cup, saucer over the cup to preserve the contents from splashing. A fourth man smoking a pipe arrives, sits at the head of the table sets down a folder and opens. The scene has lasted a petite, it was still, no music was heard, though the first man coughed once or twice. The last man then says “We are ready to initiate” and improper horns inaugurate sounding the theme music. This is director John Irvin’s concept of a snappily scene!

Later scenes depart noteworthy more methodically, and involve long conversations about the residence, but that are framed beginning and ruin with chit-chat about the wife and the cottage. There is some action, but we almost feel it interferes with the status and we want to win help to those conversations that beget the gold dust we need to sift out of the polite exchanges.

Alec Guinness is perfect as George Smiley. Listless and methodical and illustrating GS’s quirks and mannerisms perfectly. Spy how often he takes off his glasses and wipes them tidy. The rest of the cast performs admirably. On my first viewing, they had managed to screen some truly difficult dialogue (e.g. “Now, Young Mr. Guillam, are you jubilant in Brixton? ” le Carre’s weakness is realistic dialogue, for all his realism elsewhere) and turn them around into believable expressions of character.

Finally it seems the weather improved the production no raze. Many of the scenes were filmed outdoors during the third coldest recorded winter since WWII. The actors were chilly and were genuinely oppressed by particularly inappropriate English weather. This added to an already realistic production.

This is one of my favorites, but it’s also one of the most difficult movies to picture to people. Yes, it’s about two experienced guys in the Navy who are assigned to escort a young charge (whom they don’t know) to Naval prison. And yes, they have some fun along the intention, lustrous how dusky the status really is. But there’s an indescribable something about “The Last Detail” that honest gets to me on a exquisite deep level. First of all, it’s the acting. I mean if you ever put a question to Jack Nicholson’s talent and depth as an actor, then witness this movie. I beg to argue about who on earth could have ever embodied this role this deeply. I don’t contemplate any of the other astronomical and vast actors of his time could have pulled it off this perfectly (Gene Hackman, Al Pacino, George C. Scott, Robert DeNiro) . Also, Otis Young and Randy Quaid are pitch-perfect in their roles as well, though the movie clearly belongs to Nicholson. This is a Expansive PERFORMANCE!! It’s the definition of one!

But in addition to the acting, the photography of the film is shiny. It captures the times and places in a rather bleak yet very haunting blueprint. The guys drinking beer in the parking garage in D.C. The three of them pressed into the shrimp hotel room in D.C., along with all those empty beer bottles. Walking a calm and snowy residential block in Camden, NJ. Walking the streets of nighttime NYC. Playing darts in a bar in NYC. Going to a slow night party in an NYC apartment. Going to a Boston brothel. Trying to grill and have a picnic in the middle of a snowy park in Boston! I don’t know if it’s honest my fascination with the time that causes me to obtain it so darn striking, but it objective is. I win these scenes so haunting, and so Exact.

To me, those two things are what develop this film so exceptional. The dialogue is also gleaming, as is the complexity of the emotions that are raised by the chronicle. I guess it works on a lot of levels. Unprejudiced don’t miss it, whether you’re a Nicholson fan or not. But if you are a Nicholson fan, don’t miss out on what is probably his greatest performance!!

Directed by Hal Ashby, who made such noteworthy commentaries on life in America as SHAMPOO, COMING HOME, BEING THERE and the cult-favorite HAROLD AND MAUDE, THE LAST DETAIL offers the anecdote of three U.S. Navy sailors on a toot–and at the time of its 1973 release it was chiefly famed as the most profane film to enact a mainstream release. The passage of time has dimmed that profanity’s bite, but nothing can dark the power of its performances, it’s darkly laughable anecdote, or the director’s bitter vision of both life in the Navy and the urban decay of 1970s America.

Two Navy-lifers (Jack Nicholson and Otis Young) are ordered to escort a young sailor (Randy Quaid) to a military prison, where he will do eight years followed by dishonorable discharge for attempting to acquire a charity jar containing forty dollars. Once the hotfoot gets underway, they realize the young sailor is essentially an innocent–and they area out to present him a friendly time before he is locked away. And their belief of a generous time ranges from a bout of hard drinking in a hotel room to a brawl in a men’s restroom to an evening with Original York hookers. Along the diagram, Nicholson and Young gradually realize that they are fair as noteworthy in prison as Quaid will soon be–victims of their bear ennui, serving out their sentences in a military that fosts coarseness, frustration, and mindless machisimo as a matter of course.

The performances are obliging throughout. This was the film that launched Nicholson to stardom–but it is also a film that allows us to peek what Nicholson could do before he became immured in the trappings of his beget fame and collapsed into self-characture: he is every bit as righteous here as he would be in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST and CHINATOWN. Otis Young, an actor whose career never quite took off, is Nicholson’s equal here, balancing Nicholson’s excesses with his no less firey but considerably more commonsense role. And Randy Quaid scores an equally memorable performance as the young sailor, while Carol Kane gives a memorable turn as one of the hookers they encounter in their travels. Perceive closely and you’ll also contemplate a very young Gilda Radner as a member of a religious cult.

Fashion changed, and with the advent of Ronald Regan, the stock market hiss, and two decades of heavy-handed materialism Americans abandoned their cinematic realism and social statement in favor of gigantic budget, special effects heavy, and largely escapist film. But the pendulum inevitably swings help, and now that we face serious issues both at home and abroad such films as THE LAST DETAIL are at last, perhaps, beginning to arrive into their possess. Crocodile Dundee II is a classic. No matter how worthy one doesn’t like the turn that this second film took, it will always be a memorable sequel. When you perform a sequel, you’re also supposed to “up” the level of conflict. And that called for a serious tone. But at the same time, they kept it as light as they could. It isn’t dreadful at all. The drug dealers who followed Dundee and his Lady serve to Australia were in for a shock.

What other sense of a sequel were we supposed to be provided with? I mean, they had to mediate of something. And this was it! It has a more intense conflict, peaceful with a light tone applied to it– and remarkable humor. We are allowed a inspect into the life of Crocodile Dundee, and what he looks like when being confronted with a conflict on his possess turf down under. It was nice to scrutinize him play games and race numbers on the abominable guys. Quite memorable this film was, indeed!

Be determined to check out the third installment, “Crocodile Dundee In Los Angeles” It’s not as serious of a tone, but level-headed a mountainous study!

I saw Crocodile Dundee II for the first time three weeks ago and heartily recommend it. I saw its prequel when it originally was in theaters in the eighties, and would suggest this sequel especially to adults who have seen the first one. The general mood remains that of a comedy, and the characters are drawn almost to stereotype, but there is too great of a sense of friendship among the characters for this ever to become offensive. Hogan conveys both grand hearted kindness and a gloomy sense of misfortune in equal measure. I especially enjoyed Kozlowski’s character, who is a movie heroine of an independent type of which we composed do not peer enough. Reach the destroy of the movie her decisiveness will bring on the conclusion of the dwelling. I also hope that I net a chance to discover more of Dingo, whose charismatic supporting character is onscreen for too puny time.

The most great scene, and the one that stands out for leaving comedy late in favor of something approaching the spiritual, comes when Dundee must call for attend from atop a ridge surrounded by miles and miles of wilderness. Later on, during the nineties, Hollywood attach out a zillion movies on the theme of western people gone native, and they would have been better if they had taken an egalitarian tone as this movie does, comedy though it is.

But mainly, this is a movie meant to be fun. If Crocodile Dundee II has anything serious to say, it is that mutual respect is the arrangement to go, and for that I give it five stars.

The visuals are nothing short of dazzling, especially in HD. It’s worth the download objective to check out how beautifully the cg animation is rendered. The action scenes are tight, with Matrix-esque expressionless motion shots, crazy camera angles and an emphasis on heavy gun play, indicative of producer John Woo’s style. One drawback on the cg animation though is that when characters interact with each other physically it seems awkward. They don’t feel like they are touching. I imagine that when you create something with animation like that you’d urge into clipping issues when the characters intereact heavily. In fact, it reminded me of carve scenes from Eternal Sonata, a video game using similar animation techniques but on a bigger scale obviously.

The account is an upgrade from the first movie, although the main antagonist borrows heavily from classic Star Gallop villain, the Borg. There’s even a Borg like cube of sorts that serves as it’s foundation. The subplot consists of a triangle between Deunan, Briareos (the main protagonists from the first movie) and Tereus, a biroid created mostly from Briareos’s DNA who becomes Deunan’s unusual partner after her lover falls in battle.

If I were to gain a criticism I’d say that the main antagonist was revealed a tad too gradual, making the final resolution a runt anti-climactic. At a runtime of about an hour and 40 minutes I felt like another 20 minutes would have been justified. When it was over, I couldn’t quite enjoy it at first. Also, and this may be a obliging thing, events from the first movie go almost completely without mention. This means that you won’t have to have seen the first one to enjoy this, but at the same time there is a lack of continuity for those that did.

All in all though, it’s a wonderful film and worth a gawk.

The first Appleseed film (from 2004) was quite a treat. The cell-shaded CG graphics looked very superb for the time. Complementing this clear standout aspect was an animated legend and an obedient soundtrack. It’s worth noting that the record, in particular, felt like a genuinely novel re-animation of sci-fi concepts.

Fast forward to today and we have the sequel, Ex Machina. It’s pleasing simple to separate what works and doesn’t in Machina:

GRAPHICS:

The level of detail in the graphics has improved dramatically, and characters notice less like geometric objects with textures painted on and more like apt people. The cityscapes are even more impressive. Furthermore, the action is more frequent and looks even slicker.

My two gripes with the visuals are these: First, in what is all too favorite in action movies like this, the best scene is the first one. Hands down. I don’t understand why so many directors feel the need to frontload their movies. I will say that the movie is less guilty of this than its predecessor. Second, movement outside of action scenes calm looks a bit jerky. Some might fault mo-cap technology, but for my money, Final Fantasy: Advent Children boasted some great believable movement.

STORY/WRITING:

Here’s where Ex Machina falls apart. The legend here isn’t anything you haven’t seen executed better in anime/other entertainment. Compared to the state of the first movie- which created a current sci-fi framework, this one felt like a filler episode. The villain was cliche, the epic far less complex/meaningful than the first, and any intrigue or mystery the narrative might yet have held was ruined by the cross writing. The film tasks itself with letting the viewer in on a number of concepts significant to the station, but rather than integrate them seamlessly into the dialog, it bashes the viewer over the head with them.

MUSIC:

The soundtrack wasn’t bad- I fair didn’t eye it most of the time. This constitutes a miniature letdown considering how often I return to the soundtrack from the first movie.

OVERALL: Ex Machina is a ogle to see and warrants a blu-ray buy. Impartial don’t quiz it to expand great on the ideas introduced in the first Appleseed.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

Video is featured in widescreen. Swardson’s comedy routine is well-lighted and although backgrounds are kept simple, the top-notch thing thing is that the comedy does exhibit quite a bit of audience reaction with well-behaved shots at the audience. Camera angles are either discontinuance up, body shot, at various positions towards the audience and diagram up high above the audience. Editing is well-done. Not dizzying at all. Camera angle stays on the comedian for most of the time.

Audio is featured in Dolby Digital. I opted to have my receiver place at stereo on all channels in order to have the audio all around me. But audio is understandable and obvious. Audience laughter is also quite obvious and doesn’t disturb Swardson’s performance.

JUDGMENT CALL:

Nick Swardson’s comedy DVD “Seriously, Who Farted? ” definitely showcases the comedian’s like for beer and alcohol. He loves it, repeats it and his comedy routine definitely works. Especially for the audience who go crazy when he talks about alcohol or drugs. College humor at its finest, I have to admit that I was so old-fashioned to seeing Swardson on film and television that I never really seen his comedy routine. I knew he was a silly guy but I didn’t know he was a comedian.

But watching “Seriously, Who Farted? “, I couldn’t serve but laugh repeatedly. His comedy is definitely understandable and can be easily appreciated by those familiar with the topics he discusses and the fact that he uses sure situations that come a young crowd, discussions of XBOX 360 or Nintendo Wii is one thing, but for audiences who have been in a drunk stupor, are familiar with pot brownies, Asian massage parlors, UFC, ninjas and can laugh quite easily at monkeys, definitely will gain Swardson’s comedy DVD to be quite fun and refreshing.

Sure, there are many drunk comedians but Swardson’s comedy is quite hilarious because he’s like the guy next door, the guy you went to college with, the guy you partied with… And I deem what makes him so different from other comedians is the wacky roles he plays on films such as the joyful skater in “Reno 911, the guy who lives at home and never has success with women in “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” or the Dance Dance Revolution gamer in “Grandma’s Boy”. Supporting roles that are honest hilarious to explore and Swardson himself is objective a comic comedian that will definitely accomplish you laugh, pee in your pants or execute you feel that you’re going to bust a gut. It’s that hilarious!

As for a Comedy Central DVD, you salvage the well-behaved camera angles but it would have been extra nice if this DVD release had been given the treatment of an audio CD (like Comedy Central’s Russell Peters DVD release) because this is the kind of comedy that you would want to listen to in long commutes.

Overall, Swardson’s “Seriously, Who Farted? ” is a hilarious comedy DVD worth checking out!

I read a review earlier where Swardson was called a hack and I felt I needed to apologize to that reviewer to a distinct extent. The reviewer called Swardson a hack and kind of have to agree that some of the stuff on this Dvd ive def seen done by other comedians(Pablo Francisco) . I cringed when i saw the similarities as i am a mountainous Swardson fan, but he totally ripped off Pablo on a few of these bits… On top of that, a lot of the jokes were not the LOL silly ive approach to examine from Crop. There are 2 or 3 bits in the Dvd that are really hilarious but most of the stuff on the dvd fair humdrum bomb. Maybe its impartial me Idk… I hope his next special has the kind of material Swardson is valid of producing.

This is some of the best stuff the Stooges ever did even though it doesn’t have the enormous stooges like Curly and Shemp. It has Curly-Joe. I have to be fair. I didn’t like Joe Besser as a Stooge at all but Curly-Joe has heart. He fits in very well with Moe and Larry. I don’t want to go into detail with the movie because I don’t want to kill it. All I can say is that this is classic 3 Stooges slapstick material. If I made a video of the best Stooge moments I would be using this video quite a bit. If you’re a just Stooge fan you’ll be pleased this movie at the very least.

After the vast success of “The Three Stooges Meet Hercules”(1961), Columbia Pictures didn’t raze time in signing Normandy Productions(Moe’s son-in-law’s film studio) to make another stooge describe. Titled “The Three Stooges In Orbit”(1962), it is one of the team’s funniest films and is almost on a par with their best feature “The Outlaws Is Coming.”

The plot: After being thrown out of every apartment and hotel in Los Angeles, the Stooges catch shelter in Professor Danforth’s(Emil Sitka) spooky mansion. The boys are TV stars and they need a state to rehearse their lines for their television display, The 3 Stooges Scrapbook. Soon after their arrival, Danforth starts talking about Martians trying to remove his secret war machine. The trio thinks he’s off his rocker, but it doesn’t occupy long for them to learn the truth and the mayhem begins.

The Three Stooges Scrapbook was an genuine unsold pilot for an unsold TV series in 1960. The footage of the insecure mansion and the Stooges on their TV indicate was derived from this reveal. “The Three Stooges In Orbit”(1962) was Moe, Larry, and Joe’s last smart moment at the box-office. This nice veteran situation about boy meets girl, girl gets boy is a fantastic showcase for Gina Lollobrigida’s immense talent and beauty, and with the wait on of the comedic skills of Walter Slezak, do this film (at least the last hour of it), laugh-out-loud hilarious. This was Lollobrigida’s biggest hit in America, and deservedly so; Rock Hudson makes a tall partner for her, noteworthy as he was doing in this early 60’s era with Doris Day in many films.

Hudson plays American tycoon Robert Talbot, who finds that while he is away, his villa has been turned into a hotel, and his girl is about to marry someone else.

The secondary station brings together young tourists Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin, who sings (and wrote) “Multiplication” in a nightclub sequence. Cupid played his piece with these two actors, as they were married soon after the film was completed.

Walter Slezak is salubrious as Maurice, Talbot’s major domo, who manipulates every dwelling around him, and there is some clever dialogue in the film, mighty of it said by him. Robert Mulligan’s direction is hasty paced, and cinematographer William Daniels makes the most of the station shots of Rome, Milan and Portofino.

There is such innocence in this film, and it’s so deliciously un-politically moral. This is not one for die-hard feminists, but will be enjoyed by anyone who likes the fluffy and genuinely silly comedies of that era…and to inspect the sheer beauty of Lollobrigida, and the perfect timing of her delivery…I care for the draw she says “I don’t have to do sense, I’m Italian!”
